Two years ago I was invited to help with the catering of a seminar for school and university teachers. After eight days of working non-stop in the kitchen of a hotel, I was feeling very tired, wanted to go back home, and was thinking too much about myself. One morning, the whole team was called to receive a blessing, and I could not believe when I heard how grateful the teachers were and how they could not have done their activities without us preparing their meals. Then I realized how we all are part of a family, each one with a special part to play. I decided to offer a little of my time. For the last two years, one day a week, I help prepare a retreat centre for the week-end activities. When I offered myself to do it, I did not think I was going to be able to keep my word. It has helped me prove to myself that I can honour a commitment. And get to love it, too. This day of “work” has become my free day. I am free from all my other activities and I feel so happy that a little of my time is helping others enjoy the retreat centre. Everything I have started since then has become a success. This gives me courage to go on. It has given me the energy to take the proper decisions in my life.
